Thanks to the leading European fund for pre-seed financing Atlantic Labs, the startup tozero has raised 3.5 million euros and it will become the first startup in Europe that recycles lithium-ion batteries.
Dr. Ksenija Milićević Neumann, together with Sarah Fleischer, founded the Berlin-based startup tozero, with the intention of building a leading European company for the recycling of lithium-ion batteries (LiB).
Startup tozero aims to close the production cycle of lithium-ion batteries and reduce toxic waste to zero by recycling raw materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel. These materials will be delivered to battery manufacturers, which will reduce the harmful impact on the environment and prevent geopolitical tension in Europe.
The plant will be based in Munich, a city where a third of the lithium-ion batteries for the European market are planned to be produced by 2030.
