Clockify, a Toggl free of charge clone, reaches 160,000 active users, just over a year after the launch. Company CEO Nenad Milanović explains the details behind this growth.
Last week, we were adding an average of about 1,400 users every weekday on the Clockify cloud service. We have an increasing number of registrations every week.
We spend zero money on commercials. It’s all organic. Most users come directly to the URL, which indicates that we have good recommendations.
The value we offer currently has no competition on the internet. The free Clockify cloud edition offers much more than many similar, paid services.

The Clockify cloud has remained completely free of charge since the time of launch, and when it comes to monetization, the team looks up to Trello approach.
Trello has served us as an inspiration where we reward every user who invites other users to the platform with additional functionality at no charge. If the user does not have time to call other users, he or she has the option to pay for those additional functions. Our main source of revenue is our self-hosted edition for enterprise clients.
Among the many time tracking tools, the domestic version stood out thanks to its many free features, as well as constantly listening to users’ needs and developing products according to their feedback. Toggl also responded to their great growth.
We have heard the information that they have dropped prices several times and offered discounts. We pay less attention to competitors while primarily listening to users. What most customers are looking for is what we deliver first.
We are constantly adding new functionalities. Since launching last year, we have covered both mobile platforms, all three mainstream desktop platforms and have made more than 100 integrations with other tools through the Clockify Chrome extension.
